Birth of the Tin Car

The first original “tin car” was produced in 1998, the Radi-Can car and it was invented by the Japanese toy company, Taiyo Kogyo Co, ltd and sold under the name; New Concept, Taiyo R/C. They made different line ups and offered tune up parts, like the Hyper Unit gearbox. The cars were of good quality and realistick looking, with licensed car names. They also made the Radi-Book, that came in a book instead of a can. Taiyo manufactured some very detailed cars, but they was also a little exspensive. All the Taiyo R/C cars, was made in China. In 1999 Tayio R/C also manufactured cars for Mattel, Inc. under the brand Tyco R/C, Canned Heat, the cars was of the same quality like the Radi-can car and the cars was licensed with brands like Dodge, Volkswagen, Audi and other known car brands.

In 2007 Sega Toys took over Taiyo Kogyo’s Radio Control Toys. Today the trademarks TAIYO and TAIYO R/C is owned by Toyshock USA LLC. Is seems like it have come to an end of the Radi-can car?

The design of the car is very simple and can be divided into 3 sections, the front steering, the receiver and the gearbox system. The front steering system is invented by Shohei Suto and was patented by Taiyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1989.

Aftermarket Race-tin chassis, the steering magnet is to the left, the receiver pcb in the middle and the gearbox to the right.

Later on this simple toy car design from Taiyo R/C was manufactured by different companies in China, under other names, one of the biggest companies that used the design, is Auldey Guangdong Toy Industry Ltd. and they made their Race-tin car version, Race-tin is Radi-can in English. The Race-tin car and the brand became very popular and is it still today. Millions of cars have been sold.
The Radi-can car was never exported to Europe, so not many knows the Radi-can toy car. But Auldey exported theier version
